GoldenWest Dojo Judo and Jujitsu Club is a Martial Arts School that promotes Danzan Ryu Jujitsu which is one of the original Japanese systems taught throughout the world. It is sometimes known as "Hawaiian Jujitsu of Self Defense" or "Kodenkan." It is easy to learn and fun for all ages.  Jujitsu is truly a defensive art that is down to earth, balanced, practical, sensible, restorative and effective .

History

Established in 1982

The Dojo was founded by Dr. H. Bruce Stokes.  Dr. Stokes holds the title of Professor in the Danzan Ryu system. He has trained the current dojo sensei's in the system who now continue to promote the arts handed down through the GoldenWest Dojo of the Shoshin Ryu Yudanshakai. GoldenWest Dojo is currently headed by Sensei Michael Whitaker who holds a 4th degree black belt in the system.

GoldenWest Dojo Judo and Jujitsu Club is also affiliated with Shoshin Ryu Yadanshakai founded by Professor Mike Chubb who holds a 10th dan. Shoshin Ryu is a nonprofit organization that promotes Danzan Ryu Jujitsu and it's founder Henry S. Okazaki. Often referred to as "The Gentle Art", jujitsu is a system of self-defense designed to overcome aggression through the utilization of escapes, joint manipulations, throws, and constriction techniques. Relying on fundamental principles of balance rather than strength, jujitsu is ideally suited to everyone, regardless of age, sex, or physical abilities. The techniques are intended to address all forms of aggression, yet provide the defender with the ability to determine the level of response appropriate for the circumstances encountered. Students are taught a system of self-defense through which they will develop self-confidence and an overall sense of well being.
